Book Concept: Comments

The content outline seems complete. I am very impressed and looking forward to seeing more.

I congratulate you on the book concept. I think you have the essentials covered, but the potential content is limitless and continuously changing. I don't think it will ever be complete - actually the beauty of online content.

I think the idea is great. All the topics needed are covered and I think it will do very well. Good luck with the project!

It seems to me that in this chapter you are expanding well beyond the scope of "Computing in Dentistry", trying to cover topics - i.e. harware peripherals like cameras and digital radiographic detectors - that have little in common with the book mainstream, and that would require a (broader) separate treatment in a different book, probably by different specialists than those who author the computer- and software-related stuff, since they involve different issues and a different frame of mind. For instance, while a digital camera needs (usually, but not necessarily) a computer in order to be operated, still it remains a totally distinct kind of device and application than the computer itself and the software in it. To make a silly parallel, computers need electrical power to operate, but you do not delve into electricity generation and distribution in a book about computers. I definitively think that matters related to hardware peripherals should stay distinct from those related to computer and software therein. I my work, I push hard to keep them separate. In facts, while in the beginning I have to fight an uphill battle to convince inexperienced people that they are indeed different matters and should be handled separately, then in time this comes to happen spontaneously.

I think the book/Website is an excellent idea. I would like to see it linked to CE credits to attract the general dentist to this domain. I would also like to see a separate commercial resource area with links to vendors sites.

Thank you very much for asking me about your book and site. It is an interesting idea and is well done. All I can say is only one comment as is followed: You see all world from the top. I suggest to add a chapter for learning internet offline and make a course ready for download on your site to help the dentists in the area that have no online Web learn about it. I as a teacher in my country in some workshops in the villages that have no access to web, teach internet and dental web sites by the use of a collection of offline downloaded sites that i made ready in more that 2 years and make it up to date any time I see a site is up to dates. I will be happy that see you think to such poor areas too. As you now the gap of information is increasing between developed and poor countries(some africans and some asian's) because of lack of access to internet. Please think to feel this gap in a little part of your development activities.
